Linenspa 10 Inch Memory Foam And Hybrid Mattress Review

Logan: Hi! It’s Logan from Today we are taking a look at the Linenspa eight-inch hybrid mattress. It’s a value mattress that’s marketed towards kids, teens, young adults. I’m going to put the mattress through a few tests today and have some general recommendation at the end of the review. If you do have any questions that I don’t answer during the video portion or looking for a personal recommendation, please feel free to leave a note in the comment section below with some information about yourself, some of your sleep preferences. I’ll be sure to get back to you. I’m going to start the review with the construction portion, with the cover, which is a soft polyester blend, has a bit of a quilting from a memory foam in it as well, giving it some initial pressure relief. Let’s take a look underneath cover at the layers of the mattress. The Linenspa hybrid is made of foam and coil layers. It stands eight inches in height. We already talked about the foam that’s quilted into the cover providing some medium pressure relief. Below that, we have a comfort layer of polyfoam, soft material. You can be able to sink in right away for pressure relief. It does have a pretty quick response of pressure. You’re not going to feel stuck when lying on the mattress. Below that, we have the support center of the mattress is a coil system. Provides support to the layers above it as well as deep compression to support to the sleeper on top of the mattress. Actually provides some solid bounce to the mattress against to be able to change positions. You won’t feel stuck in the mattress. Another good thing about a coil system such as this is, it creates air space in the mattress which is going to allow airflow through it for temperature regulation and cooling. This coil system will provide a traditional innerspring feel. [silence] Logan: Now that you’ve seen what makes up the Linenspa, something of an idea for the feel and firmness of the mattress. I start by pressing into the cover. The first thing I feel is that quilted cover, the memory foam spreading some initial softness and pressure relief. A little bit more pressure, start pushing further into the mattress, start to feel that comfort layer of polyfoam. Then begin to interact with these support coils, which really give some bounce to the mattress. I’m going to lie down on my back. Lying on my back, my weight’s pretty evenly distributed. I am pushing a little bit into the mattress. In my opinion, this mattress does have a medium firmness, 6 out of 10 on the firmness scale. I do feel that memory foam and the polyfoam filling the space when you’re lying on your back, which is nice. I’m definitely not feeling sunken into the mattress, definitely feel more on top of it. I’m going to be able to change positions really easily. I’ll roll on my side here. Side sleepers do want to be extra conscious of pressure points especially at places like the shoulders and the hips, which can be problem areas for a lot of side sleepers. Because of that increase weight concentration over a lower surface area, you push through more layers of the mattress that you’re lying on. There is just a thin layer of foam on top of the Linenspa eight-inch hybrid. I do feel like I’m pushing through it and starting to interact a lot more with the coil support layer. That is going to cause it to feel a bit firmer for those people that sleep on their sides. I do personally feel a little bit of pressure on my shoulders. We’re going to take a closer look at pressure later on in our review. I’ll roll on my stomach. The opposite of side sleepers, sunk sleepers tend for firm mattresses. They keep their hips from sinking in, keep their spine aligned in a good position. I do feel like my hips are sinking in just a little bit. Everyone can feel the firmness of a mattress a little bit differently. It’s in different sizes and weight distributions. For reference, I’m about 5’10”, 190 pounds. If you would like a wider variety of opinions on the firmness of this mattress and more detailed description of the feel of it, you can check out the written review at Instead of just describing the feel of the Linenspa hybrid to you, I want to give you a visual representation of where pressure points might form while lying on mattress. To do that, I place this pressure map on top. I’m going to lie down on a few different positions. You’ll see the results next to me ranging from blue for low pressure, to red for high pressure. I’m going to start on my back. Roll on my side. Try few positions here on my side. Finally, on my stomach. Just to give you a quick idea of the bounce of Linenspa eight-inch. I have this 10-pound steel ball here. I’m dropping it. As you can see there is quite a bit of a bounce to the mattress. The coil layer does give a traditional innerspring feel to the Linenspa hybrid. While we’re here also I’m going to run a quick motion transfer test. Basically, I have this 10-pound steel ball. I’m dropping it from heights of 4, 8, and 12 inches. Those drops are going to simulate someone rolling around in the middle the night or getting into and out of bed. The results are going to show the disturbance is transferred from one side of the bed to the other. I have the seismometer there to measure the disturbances transferred across the bed. The results are on screen. You can see there is quite a bit of motion transferred from one side of Linenspa to the other. Again, it’s a really bouncy mattress. That traditional innerspring feel to it, is going to have a pretty high amount of motion transfer across the bed. A lot of people buying a mattress they’re going to want to know if they can feel like they’re sitting on top of or sinking into bed. To test this I have a sinkage test which uses four balls of varying sizes, weights and densities, to simulate different body parts. Check to see how far into the mattress they go. We have the six-pound medicine ball. It’s filled with sand. It’s a lighter body part. 10-pound steel ball, it’s the densest ball we used during this test. 50-pound medicine ball, it’s also filled with sand. It simulates heavier part of your body. Finally, the 100-pound medicine ball, is filled with sand. If you’re a bit bigger, it simulates the center of your body. The Linenspa hybrid found that the six-pound medicine ball has one and a half inches of sinkage into bed. Two inches of sinkage for the steel ball. Four inches of sinkage for the 50-pound medicine ball and five inches of sinkage for the 100-pound medicine ball. In terms of how far into the mattress they’re sinking, these are average numbers on the lower end. As we get up to the heavier balls, they are sinking most at least half if not more through the mattress. If you are a bit heavier, you can expect to sink pretty far into the mattress. However, with the quick response to pressure from the polyfoam in the comfort layer as well as the coil layer, there’s pretty good response to pressure. I didn’t feel stuck in the mattress at all when lying on the mattress. I just want to point out that at heavier weights you are going to push much further into the Linenspa. If you’re sharing bed with the partner, you need to use the entire surface area of the mattress. Edge support is something you want to take a look at. Actually, the strong edge is going to allow you sleep all the way to the end, make bed feel a little bit bigger. When I’m lying to the side of Linenspa hybrid, over here near the side, it’s a similar feeling from the center of the bed which is good. Get really close to the edge here. You can see that I am compressing through that foam layer, to be expected of softer foams. There is a little bit of compression of the coil layer beneath it. I do still feel secure in my position on top of the bed. As I roll on my side here, hang off, again, you see compression all going into the coil layer. I don’t feel like I’m on a roll out of bed or anything like that. That’s good. When you sit up on the side of the mattress, maybe putting your shoes on in the morning or getting into bed at night, it shows an increased weight concentration over a specific area of the side of the bed. I do feel that I am compressing the Linenspa a bit here. You can see that I’m pushing through those soft foams as well as compressing the coil layer below. Just to give you some basic information about the Linenspa hybrid, there is a 10-year warranty, shipping is free. It will arrive compressed in a box. Also I want to mention that it is available for purchase on Amazon. Who do I recommend this mattress to? It’s for kids and teens. That’s really who they had in mind when they designed the Linenspa hybrid mattress. Along those same lines, I would also recommend it for those that are looking to buy a mattress on a budget. Maybe this is for a college apartment, something like that. It does come in on the less expensive side when talking about hybrid mattresses. Finally, I would recommend this mattress if you’re looking for that traditional innerspring feel. The coil support layer does give it the bounce that you might expect out of a more traditional innerspring mattress. There’s some really general recommendations. If you do want to get a little bit more specific, use example sleepers. You’re 230 pounds and you’re a side sleeper. I don’t think Linenspa hybrid would be right for you. You’re going to push through that foam really easily. You’re going to be interacting with that coil support layer, causing pressure to form at the shoulders and hips. If you’re 140 pounds, maybe a little bit lighter, you sleep on your back. I think the Linenspa could be a good choice for you. These are really specific examples.
